It all started in the 80's

Here are some shots of the 80's themed FRG meeting I attended back in October, it was my first FRG meeting here in Seoul, and I was a little hesitant about it because I didn't love the FRG when I lived in Virginia, but I'm so glad I went because here is where I met all these wonderful women that have made such a difference in my move to South Korea.

I already knew the hostess, Jahayra, who became like a big sister to me in such a short time. She left Seoul already and I miss her like crazy. I love dressing up so I did the best I could without having my  HHG, and I didn't care about looking silly, even though I didn't know anyone yet.
It really was a day to remember. I had so much fun meeting new people and I never would have thought that three months later, they would become so important to me. Love you all, girls!

Passion5

Passion5 is a bakery located near the Hangangjin subway station, right behind where I live. Every time I walk to the subway, I go past it and sometimes I can't help but go in. Passion5 is a little more upscale than any other bakery/patisserie that I have ever seen. The place is carefully designed and decorated, the staff always looks neat and clean and they wear black and white uniforms. The food, oh my god, THE FOOD. It is so delicious.  I strongly recommend the White Chocolate Bread, which is my favorite thing in the whole place (4,000KRW). Unfortunately, I don't have a photo of it. Here's some other stuff my husband and I ate in one of our visits.
I really love this place, whoever designed it has amazing taste. Everything in it is made with such care for details. It's just stunning. The place is split in four sections. The first one is the Gelato. We had some and it was very good gelato, not the best I've ever had, but good nonetheless. They also have ice cream sandwiches, waffles, and macaroons filled with ice cream.
The second part is the bakery, where you can find different kinds of bread, stuffed with whatever you can imagine. We always buy a loaf of some kind of round bread that has no crust, perfect for subs or for eating with butter. Super soft. (5,500KRW).
The third station is the patisserie, where you can find carefully crafted cakes, cookies, meringues, cheesecakes and everything in between, and last but not least is the chocolatier, where they have a huge assortment of macaroons and a variety of chocolates. Unfortunately, I don't have more photos because apparently you are not allowed to take photos in there but... oh well, here they are! Passion5 is a little more expensive than any other bakeries I have been to in Seoul, but it is worth for an every-once-in-a-while treat. So if you see this red bird, go in and try something, you wont regret it.

More Information:
Closest Subway Station: Hangangjin, Line 6, Exit 3
Walk straight until you see the red bird on your left.

Welcome, 2013

New Year's Eve has always been special to me. Growing up, it was the most important event in my family and everyone always did their best to get together at my grandparents house. As years go by, we've had some unfortunate situations in the family and some of us have grown apart, others, like me, moved away very very far, and it's not always easy to make my way back to grandpa's.

Last year I had the worst New Year's Eve in the history of my life, and I was bummed that this one wasn't going to be anything special either. Granted, there were hotel and club parties going on, but we have come to learn that it is very uncomfortable going to one of those things when you don't know absolutely anyone else. We decided to stay in, I cooked yummy food, we ate ice cream and we watched half of the Star Wars saga.

Midnight caught me curled up in his arms, and I realized that's where I always want to be. Only Chelsea was missing in our little family. He kissed me and the fireworks started. Our apartment here in Hannam Village, faces to the Grand Hyatt, so we had the best spot to watch them. If you know me, you know fireworks is one of my favorite things in the world, but I didn't know the Hyatt was having any, so I ran and grabbed my camera, but I really do apologize about the quality of the pictures, I had to take them through a screened in window. Also, I was more worried about savoring the moment in my husbands arms than about getting a good shot. It was the best fireworks display I have ever seen in my entire life. 10 minutes of bright, colorful and explosive joy. I missed Chelsea even more. For some reason, she doesn't get frightened with fireworks, she kinda likes them. We always took her with us on the 4th of July and she sits there and watches them. I felt really lucky about our amazing view and the fact that I got to see this amazing show, from my window, wearing my pajamas. I wouldn't change a thing.

Happy New Year, Everyone

First Day of Snow

Wednesday was the first day of snow here in Seoul. I was very excited, I had seen snow once in Chile, but we had to drive to a mountain and the snow was just there, I didn't actually see it fall from the sky so I felt like a little kid when I was standing there covered in snowflakes. When I realized snowflakes DO look like the way the look in doodles. The smile on my face was priceless. Here are some snow shots from the Hannam Village playground :)
